The Basse Chaine bridge

Inaugurated in 1838, the Basse Chaine bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the Maine. It offers one of the finest viewpoints over the Castle of Angers, an emblematic monument of the green city, which bears witness to the importance of Angers in the medieval period, when the counts and then the Dukes of Anjou were among the most powerful lords in France.

What there is to see

From the bridge, the massive silhouette of the castle, with its towers of schist and tufa, is reflected in the Maine. It is a different angle from that of the Bout du Monde promenade, which allows you to appreciate the scale of the fortress and its place in the river landscape. Crossing the bridge thus offers a fine moment of the Angers visit.
