After the effort, the reward: a panoramic stop on the Vienne audio-guided tour, the hill of Pipet offers an exceptional view over the city. The climb is steep, but the panorama amply rewards the ascent.

A balcony over Vienne and the Rhone

The ancient theatre lies below, revealing all its grandeur and remarkable preservation, with the city's rooftops, the Rhone and the surrounding hills. In the distance, on the left, rise the peaks of the Pilat regional park, while along the river stretch the vineyards of the Cote-Rotie and Condrieu appellations, a few kilometres from Vienne.

What to see

On the right appears the castle of La Batie, perched on Mont Salomon. Built in the thirteenth century, it bears witness to the fortifications that surrounded the city in medieval times. The site is not open to the public, but it can be seen very clearly from here, overlooking the city and the Rhone. Take time to savour this vast panorama.

Practical information

The viewpoint is on the hill of Pipet, which overlooks Vienne, reached on foot from the centre by a climb. Freely accessible, it can be discovered at any time; bring good shoes for the ascent.
