Westminster Hotel

On your left stands one of Le Touquet’s true gems: the Westminster Hotel. With its grand red-brick façade, perfectly balanced lines, and unmistakable Art Deco elegance, it’s impossible to miss. Opened in 1924, it became the very symbol of the resort’s refinement in the golden years between the two World Wars. At the time, Le Touquet was the favorite seaside retreat of the British and Parisian elite, and the Westminster quickly became their hotel of choice. Its name, borrowed from the London district, was chosen to appeal directly to its loyal British clientele. Designed by architect Auguste Bluysen and extended in 1926 by Raoul Jourde, the building blends Art Deco style with a touch of French classicism, lofty ceilings, stained-glass windows, elegant woodwork, and an air of serene grandeur. From the 1930s onwards, it welcomed the crème de la crème of the artistic and political world: the Prince of Wales, Marlene Dietrich, Édith Piaf… even Sean Connery between rounds of golf. Today, it remains the only five-star hotel on the Opal Coast. Completely renovated in 2020, it has preserved its soul, with original chandeliers, geometric-patterned carpets, and refined contemporary touches.
