A stop on the Riga audio-guided tour, this impressive wall is adorned with the coats of arms of all the cities and municipalities of Latvia, forming a true patriotic fresco.

A fresco of national unity

Created by the artist Leonards Laganovskis, the first version was painted in 2005 and the fresco renovated in 2018 for the centenary of the Latvian state. Each coat of arms represents a community of the country, symbolising national unity and regional diversity. The motifs range from warrior symbols to natural, agricultural and maritime elements.

What to see

Not far away, on the left, stands the Powder Tower, another symbol of Riga's history. Built in the fourteenth century, it was part of the old fortifications and was used to store gunpowder. It now houses the War Museum, dedicated to the military history of Latvia.
