St Peter's Church

A contemplative stop on the Riga audio-guided tour, St Peter's Church is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city. You have to look up to contemplate its spire of more than one hundred and twenty metres.

A church rebuilt many times

Mentioned as early as 1209, it was first a wooden Catholic church before being rebuilt in brick in the Nordic Gothic style. Its current structure, with three naves, blends Gothic and Baroque influences. It went through fires caused by lightning, destruction during the Second World War and a major restoration in the Soviet era, between 1973 and 1983, during which the tower was rebuilt.

What to see

A historic place as much as a spectacular viewpoint, the church has two observation platforms located more than fifty metres high, offering a panoramic view of Riga. Visit the building with quiet and respect for the place of worship before going up to admire the city.
