The university today welcomes more than fifteen thousand students spread across thirteen faculties covering sciences, humanities, medicine, law, economics and technology. Unusually, the lead researcher of its astronomy institute discovered in 2017 an asteroid named Latuni, an abbreviation of the university's name, in tribute to its teachers.
