The Luxembourg audio-guided tour leads you, in the heart of the Grund district, before the Neumünster abbey, approached with respect. In 1547, the Benedictine monks, whose abbey of Altmünster had just been destroyed, turned the former Saint-Jean hospital into a new abbey.

A long series of reassignments

During the French Revolution, like all religious buildings, the abbey was requisitioned and the monks expelled. It became in turn a prison, an orphanage, then a Prussian barracks, before being turned today into a cultural centre for international encounters, known as Neimënster. This long journey reflects the eventful history of Luxembourg.

The cloister, which can be visited free of charge, regularly hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
