A bandstand dedicated to a great musician

Built at the end of the nineteenth century, the bandstand served as a place of gathering and entertainment for the inhabitants of Fort-de-France. Its pretty glass roof and its organic forms link it to the Art Nouveau style, which then gave pride of place to new materials such as iron. Formerly called the Savane bandstand, it has hosted over time open-air concerts, cultural events and community gatherings. In 2006, after the death of the famous Martinican musician, composer and percussionist Henri Guédon, a pioneer of West Indian music and ambassador of Caribbean rhythms internationally, the bandstand was renamed in his honour, to perpetuate his legacy.
