The Amajé mural

The Fort-de-France audio-guided tour takes you to the end of the Malecon, before the immense colourful mural that unfolds on the ground, celebrating Martinican culture and the memory of the dissidents.

A mural of memory and identity

Completed in October 2023, this monumental mural extends over more than one thousand five hundred square metres, in the manner of a great game of the goose. Created by the Mada Paint collective as part of the "Martinik Pli Bel" project, it highlights the landscapes, the emblematic animals and the culture of the island. Its name, a Creole expression, means "this is no joke", in echo of the place where it is found, the Alley of the Dissidents. It thus pays tribute to the Martinicans who, during the Second World War, resisted the Vichy regime to join the Free France of General de Gaulle; long unrecognised as members of the Resistance, these West Indian dissidents recover here a place in the collective memory.

What there is to see

The mural unfolds its warm colours on the ground, mixing landscapes, fauna and symbols of Martinican identity, in a playful composition that invites strolling. Beyond its beauty, it carries a strong memorial charge, in tribute to the West Indian dissidents. It is a living work, likely to evolve, which enlivens the seafront and tells the soul of the island.

Practical information

The Amajé mural is at the end of the Malecon, on the Alley of the Dissidents, on the seafront of Fort-de-France. An open-air ground artwork, it can be discovered freely at all hours and on the level, along the walk.
