Oude Kerk Church

This is the oldest and certainly one of the most beautiful churches in Amsterdam! The Oude Kerk was built in 1302, originally as a small wooden chapel. Hard to believe when you see its impressive size today, right? Over the centuries, it was expanded into the grand Gothic basilica you see now, measuring 70 meters long and 60 meters wide. Another surprising fact is that this historic church is located right in the heart of the Red Light District! Following the Reformation of 1578, the church became Protestant and was renamed the "Old Church" (Oude Kerk), in contrast to the New Church (Nieuwe Kerk), standing just a few meters from Dam Square.
