The Florian Gate, in Polish Brama Floriańska, is one of the oldest and most emblematic gates of Krakow. Built at the turn of the fourteenth century, it was part of the system of fortifications that formerly surrounded the old town. It is one of the rare medieval gates preserved, after most of the ramparts were demolished in the nineteenth century to create the Planty park. This imposing stone tower, topped with a baroque roof and adorned with an eagle, marked the main entrance of the town and the beginning of the Royal Route, the path of the kings towards Wawel.
