A synagogue from 1644

The Izaak synagogue dates from 1644 and was built thanks to the funding of Isaac Jakubowicz, a wealthy merchant nicknamed Isaac the rich. Raised on his initiative, it became the largest synagogue in the Kazimierz district. Its interior, once richly decorated, testifies to the prosperity of Cracow's Jewish community in the seventeenth century, before the upheavals of the following centuries.

The Izaak synagogue strikes by its volume and its baroque architecture, rare among the city's Jewish places of worship.
