Piarist Church

This small Baroque church is the Piarist Church, also known as the Church of the Transfiguration of Jesus. It was built in 1718, along with the Piarist monastery next to it. In case you’re not familiar with the Piarists, they were a mendicant religious order, founded in 1617 by Joseph Calasanz, who dedicated themselves to Christian education. Calasanz witnessed the effects of poverty on children and sought to provide them with education. He was later canonised and became the patron saint of several Christian schools. The church is most famous for being home to the heart of Stanisław Konarski, whose bust you’ll see right at the entrance. Konarski, a member of the Piarist order, is considered a pioneer of the Enlightenment movement in Poland.
