The Northern Coastal Path

The Saint-Denis audio-guided tour briefly follows the Northern Coastal Path, which links the towns of Sainte-Suzanne and Saint-Denis along the seafront. Here, you walk only a portion of it to reach Le Barachois, enjoying fine views over the ocean.

A route along the ocean

As a whole, the Northern Coastal Path is about twenty kilometres of cycle paths, paved roads and sandy or stony tracks, following the north coast of the island. It links the Barachois and Village Desprez districts and allows you to go around Saint-Denis along the sea, in a very varied setting.

What there is to see

Along the full route, you pass the Tamarins park, Port Sainte-Marie and the Bel Air lighthouse, among other points of interest. Small fishing ports, shaded paths and ocean views follow one another. For the portion taken here, the path offers a pleasant transition towards Le Barachois, close to the sea.

Practical information

The Northern Coastal Path can be walked or cycled freely, along the north coast. The full route, about twenty kilometres, is easy but long: it is advisable to plan transport for the return. The portion near Le Barachois lends itself to a short seaside walk.
