Two historic monuments

The Victory Column, a war memorial listed as a historic monument since 2007, pays tribute to the people of Reunion who fell during the conflict. The town hall, built in 1860, is also listed. After the establishment of municipal rule at Bourbon in 1790, the council was first based where the Grand Marche now stands, then in a private house, before the construction of this building worthy of the old quarter, the administrative heart inherited from the India Company.

What there is to see

The column, originally planned for Le Barachois, was finally installed on the square of the former town hall. Its winged victory and commemorative base make it a place of memory in the city. The neighbouring town hall, with its 19th-century architecture, completes this institutional ensemble in the heart of the historic centre.
