Garaz Opera House

Bratislava’s opera performances have earned an international reputation for their high quality, and surprisingly affordable prices. But this elegant building is also home to the Slovak Philharmonic, the country’s leading orchestra, founded in 1949. The building itself dates back to 1773 and showcases beautiful Baroque architecture. It was commissioned by Queen Maria Theresa of Austria, though originally it served a much more practical purpose, as a grain storage hall. Renovated in the early 20th century, it now houses a stunning 700-seat concert hall where the philharmonic performs, along with a smaller recital room. Inside, the blend of Rococo and Art Nouveau décor makes it one of Bratislava’s most beautiful cultural landmarks, right in the heart of the city.
