Michael’s Gate

This 51-meter-high tower is the only remaining gate out of the original four that once stood along the city’s medieval walls. Known as Michael’s Gate, it dates back to the 14th century and takes its name from the Church of St. Michael, which used to stand just outside the gate before being destroyed by the Turks in the 16th century. The tower took on its current appearance in the 18th century, after undergoing many changes throughout its long history. Today, it’s one of Bratislava’s most iconic landmarks, marking the entrance to the city’s historic center. Climb to the top, and you’ll be rewarded with a lovely view over the rooftops of the old town. A true relic of the Middle Ages, the tower now houses the Museum of Arms and City Fortifications, a must-visit for history lovers.
