The funicular to Ljubljana castle

The Ljubljana audio-guided tour takes you before the entrance of the funicular that climbs up to the castle. The idea was already circulating in the Belle Époque, but it was not until the twenty-first century that it was finally realised.

One minute to reach the summit

In barely a minute, the funicular sets you down at the top of the hill, effortlessly and with a fine view already during the climb. Access is charged, and there are also combined options including both the trip and the visit of the castle. Many visitors choose to go up this way, then to walk back down by one of the shady paths that wind through the wooded hill.

What there is to see

The funicular is in itself an experience: its glazed cabin offers a plunging view over the roofs of the old town as you rise. From Gornji trg, a cobbled street also climbs directly to the castle for those who prefer the effort. Whether you choose the funicular or the walk, the arrival at the top is rewarded with a splendid panorama over Ljubljana and the Alps in the background.

Practical information
