The town hall and the Robba fountain
The Ljubljana audio-guided tour takes you to the heart of the old town, before the town hall, recognisable by its elegant baroque façade and its small loggia. It is one of the most emblematic buildings of the Slovenian capital.
A building of Venetian inspiration
The original building dates back to the fifteenth century, but it was transformed at the beginning of the eighteenth century by the master builder Gregor Maček, who drew inspiration from the Venetian style. In front of the town hall stands the famous Robba fountain, adorned with an obelisk and allegorical figures representing the three rivers of Carniola, a work by the sculptor Francesco Robba. Together, they form one of the most harmonious settings of the Market Square.
What there is to see
If the doors are open, go in to take a look: inside, several arcaded atriums host exhibitions and cultural events. The municipality sometimes offers guided tours of the town hall, which allow you to discover its rooms. Outside, the Robba fountain, one of the finest in the city, deserves that you linger over its sculptures and its obelisk.
