Here stands the entrance to the Golden Nugget, one of the oldest casinos in Las Vegas. The name “Golden Nugget” refers to a natural piece of gold, a symbol that perfectly matches the spirit of the place. The property opened on August 30, 1946, at a time when Fremont Street was the center of gambling in the city. Its theme, inspired by the gold rush, reflects the pioneer spirit and the promise of fortune that helped shape Las Vegas. In the 70s, the casino entered a new chapter when Steve Wynn became the majority owner. He modernized the property, added several hotel towers, and earned the prestigious Four Diamond rating, turning the Golden Nugget into the most luxurious address in Downtown Las Vegas. It was here that Wynn first built his reputation before going on to transform the Strip in the decades that followed. Inside the resort, you’ll find The Tank, the Golden Nugget’s famous pool complex. A massive 200,000-gallon aquarium is home to several species of sharks, and a transparent waterslide passes directly through the tank. The space spreads across several levels, with private cabanas, swim-up bars, and adults-only areas. Even by Las Vegas standards, it’s a pretty unique experience. In the lobby, you can also see the “Hand of Faith,” one of the largest gold nuggets ever discovered, weighing more than 27 kilograms. It’s a reminder that the Golden Nugget has always embraced this symbolic connection between gold, luck, and the spirit of Las Vegas.
