The Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the stage designed by Frank Gehry
A few steps from the Bean, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion is another major work of Millennium Park. This huge open-air bandstand, with its spectacular architecture, hosts concerts and major events. The Chicago audio-guided tour stops here to admire an emblematic stage of the city, designed by a world-renowned architect.
An open stage designed by Frank Gehry
Inaugurated in July 2004, the pavilion is the work of the famous architect Frank Gehry, known for his bold steel forms. Its stage is crowned by a huge deployment of metal ribbons, extended by a trellis covering the lawn. The whole can hold several thousand spectators, between seats and a large open lawn, in the heart of the park.
What to see
The pavilion impresses by its sculptural architecture, typical of Frank Gehry, and by its spectacular stage open onto the lawn. In season, it hosts free concerts and festivals that bring Millennium Park to life. Even without a show, its steel outline is worth the visit and completes the tour of the park's great works.
Practical information
