National Archives Building

You are now standing in front of the National Archives of the United States, home to three of the country’s most important documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. They are displayed in the building’s rotunda, so visitors can see them. Other than these historic documents, the National Archives has more than 3 billion records, as well as a museum with historical papers and videos that retrace America’s history and democracy. There is also a theater, a learning center, and a gift shop. Built in 1935, its architect Russell Pope took inspiration from ancient Greek temples for this neoclassical building. It is a goldmine full of historal facts and well worth a visit. Plus, admission is free, like most museums on the National Mall!
