Santana Mural
Across the street, in the middle of his magnificent black-and-white mural, sits a local icon, Carlos Santana. Born in Jalisco, Mexico, it was here in San Francisco that the musician launched his legendary band in 1966. His father being a mariachi musician, Carlos Santana grew up with a strong musical influence and became an outstanding guitarist! He is considered one of the godfathers of Latin rock. This painting, entitled "Para la Mission", was painted by San Francisco artist Mel Waters. If you visit the hippie neighborhood of Haight Ashbury, you'll see one of his most famous works of art, a portrait of the neighborhood's three most famous residents: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jerry Garcia.
