Monument of Friendship

In the middle of a small, peaceful park in central Tirana stands the Monument of Friendship, a colorful contemporary artwork that stands out from the city’s more classical statues. Inaugurated in 2016, it symbolizes the close relationship between Albania and Kuwait, a country that has actively supported Albania’s development since the early 1990s. Its modern shapes and bright colors, inspired by the Kuwaiti flag, suggest unity, cooperation and dialogue between two nations that are geographically distant yet linked through shared projects. Unlike most monuments, this one isn’t dedicated to a hero or a specific historical event, but to an idea: international friendship and solidarity between states. It also highlights the role of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, which has financed numerous infrastructure projects in Albania, especially in education, healthcare and transport. Located in Rinia Park, near the National Library and just a short walk from Skanderbeg Square, the monument has also become a quiet place to pause and meet for local residents.
