A park and its Taiwan Complex

Created in 1950, the park is dedicated to youth, which is what the word rinia means in Albanian. Its most distinctive building, the Taiwan Complex, bears a name laden with diplomatic history: in the 1970s, after breaking with the USSR and then China, Albania recognised Taiwan as a sovereign state, a provocative gesture towards mainland China. The futuristic-looking building has become the visual emblem of the park.
