Basilica of St Nicholas of Bari

On your left, you'll see the Basilica of St Nicholas of Bari. This Catholic church was built on the site of a chapel dating back to 1733. The latter was demolished in the early 20th century to allow the widening of the Corrientes Avenue, and eventually gave way to the basilica you see today. It opened its doors in 1935 and was made a basilica just two years later. The church has a symmetrical façade with two towers, one of which serves as a bell tower and still holds the bells of the former chapel. Once inside, you'll be amazed by the beautiful mosaics, paintings and main altar. On your left, you'll find a side chapel with a golden statue of Our Lady of the Foresaken, the patron saint of the city of Valencia. This precious statue was brought here all the way from Spain for the old chapel. Every year, on May 8, the city's Valencian community celebrates her with a traditional festival.
