The Story Bridge, emblematic bridge of Brisbane

The Brisbane audio-guided tour lets you admire the Story Bridge, a great steel structure that is the most emblematic bridge in the city. It spans the Brisbane River and links the centre to the suburb of Kangaroo Point.

A demand from the inhabitants finally heard

At the end of the nineteenth century, after the construction of the Victoria Bridge which already linked the north and south of the city, many inhabitants called for a new structure between the customs house and Kangaroo Point. Their demand was finally heard: work began in 1935 and, five years later, on 6 July 1940, the Story Bridge was opened, immediately becoming a symbol of Brisbane.

What there is to see

The steel bridge, with its characteristic structure, offers fine perspectives over the river and the skyline. The most adventurous can climb it on a guided ascent to the summit, for a panoramic view over the city. By day and illuminated at night, the Story Bridge remains one of the strong symbols of Brisbane.
