To the south of Salzburg sits Hellbrunn Palace, a 17th-century architectural gem built in just three years. The real charm of this Renaissance-style residence lies in its gardens, complete with grottos, fountains, and trick water features, prepare to get splashed! If you’ve got access to a car, don’t miss the chance to explore the Salzburg region further. One unforgettable stop is Hohenwerfen Castle, an impressive medieval fortress nestled high in the mountains with stunning views all around. Closer to town, Hallein Salt Mine offers a fun and fascinating experience. Hop on a mining train, glide through underground tunnels, and even float across a subterranean lake as you learn about one of the world’s oldest salt mines. Looking for a charming village? Hallstatt is just 1 hour and 15 minutes away by car and offers a picture-perfect escape. This UNESCO-listed gem is set against a backdrop of mountains and a peaceful lake, with narrow streets that have preserved their authentic charm. And if it’s nature you’re after, Lake Wolfgang is the perfect escape. Located just east of Salzburg, this idyllic spot is ideal for swimming, watersports, or simply relaxing by the water with the mountains as your backdrop.
