The Landestheater

The Salzburg audio-guided tour presents you with the Landestheater, a historic performance hall closely linked to the memory of Mozart and to the great musical tradition of the city.

A hall born under Colloredo

The Landestheater was built in 1775 on the site of a former ballroom, at the request of the prince-archbishop Colloredo. Shortly after its inauguration, Mozart played there for the first time and became one of the regular musicians of the theatre. Over the centuries, and still today, his works have continued to resound in this hall, which was entirely rebuilt in the 1890s. The Landestheater thus embodies the continuity of Salzburg musical life.
