Along the Liège audio-guided tour, you discover the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Immaculée-Conception, which offers one of the finest baroque façades in the city. Also known as the Redemptorist church, it is discovered with respect, in the Hors-Château district.

From Carmelites to Redemptorists

Built in the seventeenth century by the Discalced Carmelites, then restored by the Redemptorists in the nineteenth century, the church blends religious history and spectacular architecture. Completed at the end of the seventeenth century, its façade bears the arms of Prince-Bishop Maximilian Henry of Bavaria. Inside, now closed to the public, were a Latin-cross plan, three naves and the relics of Saint Alena, given in 1840 by Pope Gregory XVI.

What there is to see

The three-storey façade, adorned with columns, niches and above all the two lions carved by Jean Del Cour, forms a true décor of stone. Although the interior can no longer be visited, the building remains a jewel of the Hors-Château district, a witness to four centuries of spiritual life.
