Liège Fair

You’re standing on Boulevard d’Avroy, where every autumn the entire scene is transformed for one of the oldest and biggest funfairs in Europe: the Liège Fair. For more than four centuries it has drawn generations of locals and visitors. First held in 1594, it’s the oldest fair still running in Belgium, and since 1854 it has set up here every year along this boulevard. During five weeks, over a kilometer bursts to life with nearly 180 attractions—dizzying rides like the 80-meter free-fall tower, family favorites like the Dumbo carousel, haunted houses, skill games, and even a fairground tram that nods to the city’s past. But the Liège Fair is also a feast for the taste buds. It’s impossible to walk through without stopping for a Liège waffle, the famous lacquemants, a cone of fries, or a glass of pékèt, the region’s traditional spirit.
