East Block

You'll see that Canada’s Parliament consists of several buildings, each one more beautiful and impressive than the other. Here, you are standing in front of the East Block, which like the others, is considered a National Historic Site. Built in 1856 before the creation of Parliament itself, it contains rooms dating back to the pre-Confederation era. Originally, it was built into offices for senators, members of Parliament, and even the Prime Minister. Today, it still serves as an office space for parliamentarians. Unlike the other buildings on Parliament Hill, this one still remains the same in its Victorian Gothic style. The architects behind its construction were Thomas Stent and Augustus Laver. The East Block is open to visitors during the summer months, offering access to its four heritage rooms. You’ll be fully immersed into the world of 19th-century parliamentary life.
