The Allen Lambert Galleria, crystal cathedral
The Toronto audio-guided tour lets you discover the Allen Lambert Galleria, a simple pedestrian passage between the two towers of Brookfield Place, yet a true piece of modern architecture. Its spectacular steel-and-glass roof is one of the most photographed spots in the financial district.
A tribute to a banker
The galleria is named in honour of Allen Lambert, former president of the Toronto-Dominion Bank. Opened in 1992, the structure, one hundred and thirty metres long, gives off such a marked style that it has been compared to a crystal cathedral of commerce. Its tree-like framework, designed by Santiago Calatrava, gives it this photogenic, airy appearance.
What there is to see
Look up at the glass vault supported by tree-shaped pillars, which magnificently filters daylight. It is one of the most striking interiors in Toronto, prized by photographers. The galleria also connects several places in the district, including the nearby Hockey Hall of Fame.
