A gate opened in the twentieth century

If the Pile and Ploče gates are most talked about, the Buže Gate is no less used. Opened at the start of the twentieth century by soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it is the most recent of the accesses to the city: Dubrovnik indeed belonged to the kingdom of Austria-Hungary from 1815 until its fall in 1918. A convenient access point, it leads quickly to the maze of the streets of the old town and to its good culinary addresses. One must however deal with its long flights of steps, always easier to go down than to climb.

What there is to see

The Buže Gate offers a more discreet and direct entrance into the old town, away from the densest flows. Its steps lead to the heart of the medieval maze, between lanes and typical restaurants. It is a practical access to begin the discovery of Dubrovnik, which recalls in passing the Austro-Hungarian era of the city.
