Facing the bridge that leads to the island of Čiovo is the Municipal Court of Trogir. With its simple yet elegant architecture, it now serves as a branch of the Split court, handling local civil cases, registry matters, and land records. It’s both a place of justice and administration, but also a familiar landmark in the daily life of locals. Though the building itself is modern, it carries on a long tradition. For centuries, justice has been at the heart of Trogir’s public life. Under Venetian rule, trials were held in the main square beneath the municipal loggia, turning it into a true open-air courtroom. Today, the role continues in a more formal and discreet setting by the sea. The courthouse stands as a reminder of the city’s enduring function: the administration of justice. And just across from it, the bridge stretches over the canal to the island of Čiovo, a natural extension of Trogir now known for its beaches, small villages, and residential neighborhoods.
