History

The Dominicans settled here in 1265 and built shortly after this Gothic church, completed in the fourteenth century. Its façade is sober but elegant, pierced with an immense rose window, and its wooden ceiling, in the shape of a ship's hull, recalls the maritime soul of the city. The portal deserves to be stopped at: you see there the Virgin Mary protected by her mantle, framed by Mary Magdalene and Augustin Kažotić, a child of Trogir become bishop then blessed, whose memory is still very alive here. Behind the church opens a cloister of the fifteenth century, a true haven of peace with its Mediterranean garden, its Gothic columns and its sculpted bas-reliefs, one of the most peaceful places of the city, conducive to meditation.
