The museum was founded in 1961 thanks to the collaboration of two Cuban lovers of history and art: the sugar trader Julio Lobo and the politician and writer Orestes Ferrara. Together, they gathered a vast collection of nearly eight thousand objects linked to the French statesman, unearthed at auctions, retracing the period from the French Revolution to the Second Empire. The dwelling that houses it, inspired by the palaces of the Florentine Renaissance, was the former residence of Orestes Ferrara.
