The Malecón

Welcome to El Malecón, also known as Avenida Maceo. First laid out in 1901 to shield the city from the waves, this iconic seaside promenade has since grown into Havana’s favourite meeting place. It’s where Habaneros take romantic strolls, fish with friends, share music, and dance to the rhythms of Cuban music. Stretching 8 kilometers along the coast, from Old Havana to Vedado, this walkway is often called “the world’s longest sofa”. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere else: relaxed, vibrant, and full of life. This unique vibe has caught the eye of filmmakers, with scenes from 7 Days in Havana by Juan Carlos Tabío shot here. During the day, take in the elegant parade of vintage cars, and as the sun sets, grab a local cocktail and soak in the view.
