Church of Our Lady

Reminiscent of ancient temples, this cathedral is the most important in Copenhagen. Although the current structure was completed in 1829, its history stretches back much further. The story begins in the 12th century, when the city's founder, Absalon, commissioned a grand church that was unfortunately destroyed by fire shortly after completion. Throughout history, the building suffered repeatedly from fires and even lightning strikes. The city rebuilt it numerous times before settling on today's neo-classical design. Only the tower was reconstructed to match the original medieval one. While its exterior is painted in bright red, its interior walls are white. Inside, you’ll find many marble statues representing apostles, as well as its 60 meter-long nave that’s well worth the visit. Please step inside and take a look!
