The City Hall, in Copenhagen

The City Hall of Copenhagen is a majestic neo-Renaissance building, one of the highest monuments of the city. The Copenhagen audio-guided tour stops here to evoke this building of 1905 signed Martin Nyrop, adorned with references to Danish nature and history, whose sumptuous main hall, astronomical clock and panoramic tower make true curiosities.

History

Located facing the Tivoli Gardens, the City Hall was built in 1905 on the plans of the Danish architect Martin Nyrop: as surprising as it may seem, it is therefore more recent than the amusement park across the street. It displays a very fine neo-Renaissance style, marked by numerous references to the history, fauna and flora of Denmark; by paying attention to the details of the façade, you notice jellyfish, seagulls or crows. Inside, the immense main hall, decorated with paintings, Danish flags and lit by a fine glass roof, is doubtless the finest of the building. In the entrance hall is a historic astronomical clock with multiple functions: it indicates a perpetual calendar, reveals the eclipses of the sun and the moon and gives the time zones of the whole world, a true curiosity of the building. Another attraction, the tower of the City Hall, one of the highest of the city, that you can climb to enjoy an excellent view of Copenhagen.
