The story of Madame Tussaud

Born in Strasbourg in 1761, Marie Tussaud became, at only seventeen, the arts teacher of the sister of King Louis XVI. After the French Revolution, she inherited the wax collection of Doctor Philippe Curtius, who had taught her everything about the art of modelling. Settled in Great Britain at the beginning of the nineteenth century, she presented her works on tour for more than thirty-five years, before opening in 1835 her exhibition on Baker Street. At her death, her descendants perpetuated her art; there are today numerous Madame Tussauds museums in the world.
