A Witness to the Prewar Era

At the corner of Rue Paul-Bert and Rue de Liège stands a genuine historical rarity. This building has remained here since 1926, a remarkable survivor of the interwar years in the heart of a city rebuilt after the war. In Lorient, that alone makes it worth noticing.

Take in its silhouette, which brings together Belle Époque and Art Deco influences with remarkable subtlety. Its most distinctive feature is the rounded corner turret rising through every floor. Notice the richness of the masonry, with the principal stories highlighted by elegant semicircular balconies of black wrought iron and intricate decorative patterns.

At the top, the turret culminates in an ornate carved cornice, a feature that earned the building a place on Brittany's official heritage inventory. The building at 26 Rue Paul-Bert has also recently begun a new chapter. Local entrepreneur Pascal Roussel had dreamed about it since childhood, and eventually purchased it to give it a new lease on life.

Thanks to the meticulous and devoted restoration carried out during the 2020s, this elegant remnant of prewar Lorient has regained all of its former splendor.
