Let’s take a short pause in your visit for some ideas on what to see around Honfleur. If you’re staying in town a little longer, start with the Jardin des Personnalités, a leafy park that’s perfect for a break, right next to the Naturospace, a tropical greenhouse where hundreds of butterflies flutter all around you. Just a few steps away, Butin Beach offers a breath of sea air, ideal at sunset. For a higher viewpoint, head up to the chapel of Notre-Dame de Grâce, where you’ll find one of the best panoramas over the estuary and the Pont de Normandie. And that bridge itself is worth the detour, crossing it is a spectacular experience, and on the far side you’ll reach Le Havre, a UNESCO-listed city with striking modern architecture and an excellent Impressionist art museum. If nature is more your style, make your way to the Marais Vernier, with its unspoiled landscapes of storks, timber-framed houses, and endless meadows. For a quieter coastal charm, stop by Villerville, a lovely village between Honfleur and Trouville, away from the crowds. Continue a bit further and you’ll find Deauville and Trouville, two neighboring towns with complementary vibes: chic and glamorous on one side, convivial and food-loving on the other. Inland, Pont-l’Évêque and the Pays d’Auge open the door to authentic Normandy, full of cheeses, cider, and postcard-perfect villages. With more time, you could head to Houlgate or Cabourg for a family-friendly, romantic seaside atmosphere, or drive an hour or so to Étretat, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular cliffs, among the most beautiful on the entire Normandy coast. However you choose to spend your time: nature, sea, culture, or gastronomy—there’s no shortage of ways to extend your discovery well beyond Honfleur’s historic center.
