Whether you’re looking for something tasty to share, a one-of-a-kind find, or simply a way to keep the vacation going a little longer, Carnac is full of local food and handcrafted souvenirs. When it comes to edible gifts, the star of the show is the Carnac oyster.

Farmed in the Bay of Pô, it’s known for its delicious, slightly nutty flavor. If your trip home makes it practical, you can buy oysters directly from the local oyster farmers. If not, don’t worry.

There are plenty of travel-friendly favorites to choose from: a jar of salted butter caramel, a bottle of farmhouse cider, a few tins of fish, or a bag of pure-butter cookies are always a safe bet. But if you’re after a souvenir that’s 100% Carnac, look to the world of megaliths. Rather than picking up something generic made on the other side of the world, stop by the shop at the Prehistory Museum.

It’s a great place to find souvenirs with a little more substance: beautiful books on the Neolithic period, original stationery, plus plenty of educational games, puzzles, and creative activities for children. If you’re interested in art or home décor, browse the independent designers’ shops in the town center and the Carnac market. They’re ideal places to find genuine locally handmade pieces, from ceramics and handcrafted jewelry to decorative objects inspired directly by the ocean and the standing stones.

And of course, you can hardly leave without the famous Breton bowl with little handles and your first name painted on it! Although these bowls historically come from Quimper or Pornic, you’ll find them in souvenir shops all over town. And if you’re here in summer, don’t miss the evening markets.
