The Quai Pasteur
The Dole audio-guided tour has you walk along the Quai Pasteur, one of the most picturesque places of the city. Lined with cafés and restaurants along the water, it bears the name of the famous Louis Pasteur, born very close by.
The former quarter of the tanners
The quay bears the name of Louis Pasteur, creator of the rabies vaccine, whose birthplace is not far. It was in this street that the tanners were once gathered, who needed the proximity of water to exercise their trade. The quarter was then hardly pleasant, notably because of the smells linked to the work of hides. Today transformed, the quay has become one of the most charming places of Dole.
What there is to see
The Quai Pasteur charms with its old façades reflected in the canal, its terraces and its peaceful atmosphere. It is the ideal place to stroll at the water's edge, sit at a terrace and enjoy the charm of the "Little Venice of the Jura". The quarter also recalls the deep link between Dole and Louis Pasteur.
