The Pâquier

The vast expanse of grass you see on the other side of the canal is none other than the Pâquier. Its real name is the Champ de Mars, but the people of Annecy still call it the Pâquier, which means "meadow" and reminds us that the area was once outside the city. Today, these 7 hectares of green grass by the lake have become a real place to live, picnic and play. During your stay in Annecy, don't hesitate to go for a walk, read a book or just stroll around the parc. The Quai Jules Philippe, along which you are currently walking, runs alongside the Canal du Vassé. In the Middle Ages, Annecy, like all towns, had fortifications to protect itself from outside attacks. This canal was originally dug to fill the the city walls trenches with water. Today, it is an ideal vantage point for photographing these colourful boats. A real postcard shot with the lake in the background!
