An old port, a recent marina

The Chateau marina, built in 2009, has become a symbol of the city. The port of Brest, however, is much older: established in 1631 on the orders of Richelieu as a military port, it quickly developed, thanks to its strategic position, several installations to protect the city. In the nineteenth century, it also became a commercial port with growing traffic.

What to see

The belvedere reveals the castle of Brest rising above the boats, a remnant of the fortified city. Every four years, the marina hosts major international maritime festivals and the start of transatlantic races, to the great delight of the people of Brest.
