Lyon, France
Into the world of the silk weaversPerched above the bustle of the city, La Croix-Rousse reveals itself like a village of its own, proudly rooted in its past of silk weaving and resistance. This walk draws you into the steep, maze-like slopes of the Pentes, where hidden Traboules of Lyon still carry the echoes of the canuts, the silk workers who once shaped the neighborhood, before leading you up to the plateau—the bohemian, beating heart of the area. Between stairways that seem to carve into the sky, painted walls that tell the story of the district, and quiet squares where time feels suspended, let yourself wander through a setting where urban elegance meets a deeply authentic way of life. It’s an invitation to explore Lyon from above, a side of the city that guards its independence with as much passion as poetry.

The climate is Mediterranean, with mild winters around 5 to 15 °C and hot summers, often ranging from 28 to 35 °C, and sometimes higher during heatwaves. The best times to visit generally span from April to June and from September to October, when temperatures remain very pleasant without reaching the summer peaks, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the cities, villages, and coastline under more comfortable conditions than in mid-summer.

Parking des Terreaux : 23 place des Terreaux If you do not want to pay for parking in an underground garage, you can also find a park-and-ride facility a little further from the city center, for example in Vaise, where you can park for free and then take public transport to the city center. You will need a valid public transport ticket to take advantage of the free parking. Alternatively, if you prefer to park on the street, you will also need to move away from the city center to find free parking.
To get to the Croix-Rousse plateau, you can take the metro, which will take you directly to the plateau. It's the metro line C, direction Cuire, and you can get on it at the Hôtel de Ville. The stop you need is Croix-Rousse. However, if you take the metro, you won't be able to see all the stages of the visit, as some of them are located on the slopes. Our visit will take you through the traboule of the Cour des Voraces: access is free, but the entrance door may be closed, especially at night, for the safety of the building's occupants. In any case, feel free to push the door to check. If it is closed, simply continue up Montée Saint-Sébastien to continue the rest of the itinerary.
