A Gothic church was first built here in 1327, after a fire destroyed the hospice that stood here before. You may have noticed that the building no longer looks Gothic. That’s because it was redesigned in the 18th century to reflect a Baroque style. The church was expanded in the 19th century, but like many buildings in Munich, it didn’t escape the destruction of World War II. Fortunately, its interior was quickly restored to match the original layout.
