Hofbräuhaus Brewery

Welcome to the most famous brewery in Munich—and one of the most renowned in the world! The Hofbräuhaus, pardon my German, attracts both locals and visitors from across the globe. It was founded in 1589, following Duke Wilhelm V’s request to establish his own brewery in Munich. A few years later, it was moved to a larger building and eventually relocated here, in the heart of the Platzl. At first, it only served the nobility and royal household, and later the city’s innkeepers. In 1828, the brewery finally opened its doors to the public, much to the delight of Munich’s residents! Over the years, the Hofbräuhaus has witnessed major political events, including the proclamation of the short-lived Munich Soviet Republic and one of Hitler’s early speeches in the 1920s. Today, this legendary beer hall welcomes guests from around the world seeking to try the famous Hofbräu beers. Though it was damaged during the Second World War, it was carefully rebuilt, and its traditions proudly live on.
